Literature Text

Gwenne huddled in the corner of the cellar. Above her she could hear the soldiers of Paragory searching the house. Shattering crashes, thuds, and the splintering of wood created a continuous, deafening noise.
"Please, King Eliam," She whispered, "Please don't let them find me!"
Her mind was full of images of the destruction above in the city. Hot tears ran down her face, and she covered her ears as the screams of the dead and dying came back to her. And Alina, well, Gwenne tried not to think about her young Mithegardian cousin. At least she is home with King Eliam now, she thought, But there is so much death and destruction!
"King Eliam, help me!" She sobbed.
Suddenly, a fragment of a song came into her head. It was a song her mother had taught her when she was only a small child.
And there, in the darkness with the armies of Paragory above, Gwenne whispered the words to the song and found comfort. Hope.
"... And even when the darkness fells ye
Know that He will never leave thee.
    Sing,
    To the King
    A new song
    A new song..."

As Gwenne sang the final lines, the trapdoor shuddered and splintered with a shower of debris. She heard the shouts of a Paragor knight and knew that they had discovered her hiding place. It was only a matter of time before they found her as well. Gritting her teeth, she dried her tears and drew Thil Galel, Daughter of Light, from its sheath. When the first Paragor knight came down the steps, Gwenne was ready.
"Alleb rat!" he spat as her sword pierced his arm from behind.
She fought fiercely and wounded several knights, but in the end more came, and she was overpowered. One of the Paragor knights glared at her and laughed harshly. "Take her outside with the others!" he commanded.
Gwenne was led out into the once beautiful streets of Mithegard. Now there were small fires burning everywhere amidst heaps of rubble. Bodies littered the ground, and Gwenne wept again, this time out of anger at Paragor and his soldiers for all they had done.
The first of only a couple parts. This will HOPEFULLY be a short story. Anyway, this is from approximately pages 214 through 275 of the Door Within by Wayne Thomas Batson. I wrote the song and got it stuck in my head during math class. And Alina is the young glimpse girl Gwenne was dragging through the street. I was really bugged that we never learned why Gwenne was so sad, so I decided to make her Gwenne's cousin.

Gwenne, Mithegard, Paragor, Paragory, King Eliam, Alleble, ARE NOT MINE!!! this is a fan fiction and they belong to Wayne Thomas Batson
